A day in the life of a Trainee Solicitor - GBH Law
Trainee Solicitor Tabitha Lee has worked at GBH Law since September 2021. She undertakes a diverse range of tasks across all our different disciplines: employment, commercial property, dispute resolution and corporate/ commercial.
This is Tabitha’s ‘day in the life of trainee solicitor’ video.
Starting the day
I arrive at work at 8:50 am after parking in the GBH car park. I log onto my computer and check and flag any emails. I then create my to-do list using my weekly plan and I go to the communal area and have a cup of tea and catch up with some colleagues.
My first task of the day is to call an investigation firm to obtain quotes to locate a defendant for a debt recovery case. I then refresh my knowledge of the execution of deeds by watching the Land Registry webinar and I make some notes. I then amend a deed of release covenant with the commercial property team and track changes, and I print this off and check and compare my movements.
This is really interesting as it related to a historical covenant of a fuel station.
Lunchtime
We then had our training lunch with the whole GBH team, which is on SharePoint and DocuSign. It was lovely for the whole team to socialize and then complete some research on the legal requirement for witnessing digital signatures for the property litigation team.
End of the day
Finally, I complete my training record, which details everything I’ve done in that day to meet the requirements of my training contract.
I then go home at approximately 5:30 pm and join the Surrey Junior Lawyers Division Committee meeting to discuss our summer events.
Varied work
I undertake a variety of work as a Trainee Solicitor so every day is different, and in one day I can cover four different areas of law. I also assist one of our directors, Kate Doody, with the Firm’s social media posts to broaden our networking base.
