the GBH team

ABOUT US

At GBH Law we enjoy working with businesses, professional practices, charities and not for profit organisations of all sizes, as well as individuals in relation to their business affairs, across a wide range of sectors.

We have found your excellent ethos and professionalism to
be constant across all individuals Chris Callard, HGP Architects

GBH Law started in 2010 when three experienced lawyers, Christine Goodyear, Hamish Cameron Blackie and Denise Herrington left a large regional law firm and set up their own practice. They wanted to do things differently and go back to focusing on their clients, with whom they had worked for many years.

Since 2010, GBH Law has grown to a team of ten lawyers all of whom have the same ethos and client focus as the founding partners. In 2012 Andrea Tishler joined the firm as a director, followed by Kathryn Shaw in 2018, Kate Doody in 2019, and Helen Stone in 2023. All our directors are also shareholders and therefore know first-hand what it is like to own, run and manage a business. They are also highly experienced in their fields and able to provide great advice to their many clients.

We invest in long-term relationships and take time to get to know our clients and their businesses so that when they need our help we can get to grips with, and resolve, matters quickly.

Many of our clients are successful privately-owned businesses from across the spectrum – from UK subsidiaries of companies overseas, particularly in the USA, to multi-million-pound turnover businesses and household names who trust us with their legal work. We also advise ambitious start-up businesses whose owners understand the need for a team of professional advisers who can help them achieve their goals.

With offices in Godalming, Surrey, we work with many clients in Surrey and London but also act for clients all over the country and internationally. Since GBH Law was formed we have focused on our clients’ needs and wishes, providing excellent legal and business advice to help our clients achieve their personal and business goals. We work with our clients, not for them, and they are at the centre of everything we do.

All of our founding directors have now retired. Christine Goodyear retired in April 2020, Hamish Cameron Blackie retired in April 2023 and most recently, Denise Herrington retired in April 2024.
